  • HOW DOES FARMDROID WORK?

FarmDroid FD20 is fully electric and powered entirely by four solar panels. With RTK GPS technology and sensors, it creates a precise seeding pattern and begins mechanically weeding with unmatched accuracy even before the seeds germinate—leading to yield increases of up to 40%, according to our customers. Additionally, it micro-sprays plant protection substances only where necessary, reducing the use of chemicals by up to 94%.

  • Does FarmDroid use camera systems for crop recognition?

No, FarmDroid does not use camera systems for crop recognition. Instead, it relies on RTK GPS technology for seeding, weeding, and micro-spraying.

The high-precision GPS enables the robot to place each seed with 8 mm accuracy and remove weeds around each crop without waiting for the weeds to grow. Similarly, the robot micro-sprays with the same precision, targeting only areas where plant protection substances are necessary, reducing chemical use by up to 94%.

While the robot is equipped with a camera, it is used to allow the farmer to remotely log into the robot via a dedicated mobile app, providing a real-time view of the robot’s operations.

  • Which crops can the farmdroid handle?

FarmDroid FD20 has successfully seeded and weeded a wide variety of crops, and the list continues to expand. Farmers have effectively utilized FarmDroid for crops such as sugar beet, beetroot/red beet, onion, spinach, salad, kale, rapeseed, cauliflower, broccoli, turnip, flower seeds, and various herbs.

We have extensively tested and designed seed discs for more than 50 different crops. If your specific crop hasn’t been tested yet and you’re unsure if FarmDroid is suitable for your needs, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re more than happy to investigate and conduct tests in our dedicated test lab.

  • CAN ONE FARMDROID HANDLE MULTIPLE CROPS AT THE SAME TIME?

Yes, FarmDroid is compatible with over 50 crops and can easily transition between fields with different crops. Additionally, a single field can be divided into smaller plots with varying crops, and the robot can efficiently manage each plot based on its specific needs.

  • IN WHICH FIELD CONDITIONS AND SOIL TYPES CAN FARMDROID BE USED?

With extensive experience operating FarmDroids across diverse regions in the world, we confidently say that our robot can navigate various types of field terrain throughout all seasons. As long as the soil is not rocky, muddy, or flooded, the robot will maintain its usual precision and efficiency.

  • WHAT IS THE DAILY CAPACITY OF FARMDROID?

One FarmDroid FD20 can seed, weed, and micro-spray approximately 5 hectares per day, running on solar energy and batteries under optimal weather conditions. If there is insufficient sunlight to power your FarmDroid for extended periods, you can add a Power Bank to your robot. The Power Bank provides extra energy, allowing the robot to operate for up to 24 hours. The Power Bank can be charged at the farm, and by combining multiple robots, you can increase capacity as they can work together in the same field or across several fields simultaneously.

  • HOW MANY HECTARES CAN FARMDROID TAKE CARE OF?

The size of fields that FarmDroid can handle depends on the crops our farmers are working with. Generally, we recommend using a single FarmDroid FD20 for around 20 hectares. However, there are cases where FarmDroid is successfully used on fields up to 40 hectares. For specific inquiries or to discuss your unique requirements, please reach out to us directly or contact our local distributors. We’re here to assist with your individual needs.

  • WHO IS FARMDROID DESIGNED FOR?

FarmDroid is designed for farmers looking to reduce costs, increase yields, and prioritize environmental sustainability. The FarmDroid FD20, a lightweight robot with ultra-high precision seeding, weeding, and micro-spraying capabilities, empowers farmers to make a real impact. We understand that farming is a business, and we aim to provide a sustainable alternative to traditional solutions. Investing in a FarmDroid helps reduce the use of harmful chemicals and CO2 emissions, supporting both economic and environmental goals.

  • Is FarmDroid only for organic farmers?

No, FarmDroid is suitable for both ecological and conventional farmers. While many ecological farmers have adopted FarmDroid especially to reduce the labor-intensive process of manual hand weeding with +Weed system, there is also growing interest from conventional farmers. With an increasing focus on reducing harmful chemicals in farming, equipped with +Spray system, FarmDroid FD20 can significantly minimize chemical use by up to 94%, combining mechanical weeding with precise, targeted application of plant protection substances only where needed.

  • CAN FARMDROID WORK IF THERE IS NO SUN?

Yes, FarmDroid can operate without sunlight. Its solar panels charge the batteries, providing power for 18-24 hours a day, depending on weather conditions. The solar panels can deliver up to 1,6 kWh corresponding to 20 kWh a day. That gives the FarmDroid enough power to avoid charging the batteries externally.

If that is not enough power, it is also possible to add a Powerbank to your robot. When the weather is bad for longer periods, and there is not enough sun to power your FarmDroid, the Powerbank will provide you with up to 12 extra hours of operation. Learn more about the Powerbank here.

  • Do you have to supervise the robot while it works?

No, supervision is not required while the robot is operating. The FarmDroid FD20 is fully autonomous and can work independently without the need for human oversight.

  • How do you transport the robot?

There are different ways of transporting the robot:

    • With a 3-point hitch that is compatible with all tractors to move it on private roads and between fields
    • The dedicated transport platform for public roads
    • By putting the FarmDroid in manual mode and steering it manually for short distances
  • How many rows can the robot be configured with?

FarmDroid FD20 can be configured with up to 12 rows with a row spacing starting from 22.5 cm. Contact us to learn how many rows your FarmDroid should be configured with to best suit your crops and field requirements.

  • Where can I see a farmdroid in action?

Throughout the year we have regular demo days, where we show the FarmDroid in action. To learn more about when and where contact us or your nearest distributor.

We have more than 500 FarmDroids running in most of Europe as well as in Canada and Australia, so most likely we can arrange a demonstration nearby you.
